52 lakh employees to be benefited as Centre announces DA hike.

Dearness Allowance (DA) payments for government employees and retirees would be restored, according to the central government. The cabinet has authorised an increase in the DA from 17% to 28%, according to Union minister Anurag Thakur. The increase will take effect on July 1, 2021. The DA is a portion of the pay that government employees and retirees get. Notably, starting january 2020, the payment of workers' DA has remained unchanged.

"The DA  for employees of the central government and retirees has been enhanced from 17 percent to 28 percent. This will take effect on July 1, 2021 "he stated.

The proposal to raise DA has previously been approved by the Joint Council Machinery for central government Employees (JCM). It is made up of union representatives as well as high government officials. The cabinet Secretary is in charge of the JCM. Since 1996, DA has been used to compensate for price increases or inflation in a given fiscal year. Every year, between january and July, it is updated.

To redirect money to tackle the Covid-19 epidemic, the Centre agreed in april last year to suspend DA with effect from january 1, 2020. This is great news and a lot of people will be benefited under this scheme.
