Significance of Onam Sadhya a grand feast!


Onam. The harvest festival is marked by a colourful feast known as "Sadhya," which is served on a banana leaf. The name Sadhya was coined to describe the feast that takes place on the tenth day of the yearly harvest festival onam, which is also known as "Onam Sadhya." onam Sadhya is a traditional multi-course vegetarian meal eaten on a banana leaf during the festival. A Sadhya might contain anything from 24 to 28 items served as a single course. It can have over 64 or more pieces in situations when it is a considerably larger one, such as the Sadhya for the Aranmula Boat Race (Valla Sadhya).


Some main fried items such as Kaaya Varuthatha (banana chips), Sarkara Upperi (jaggery coated banana chips), papadam, plantain chips, kaliyadakka, Chenna Varuthathu (yam slices and fried with spices)
Curries such as like Pulinji (tamarind-based chutney), Kichadi (gourd in yoghurt curry), Pachadi (pineapple or bitter gourd in yoghurt), Olan (ash gourd with beans in a thick coconut milk gravy), Theeyal (mixed vegetable gravy), avial (vegetables made with coconut and milk),  Kalan, Sambar, Rasam, Thoran, Mor Curry, lemon & Mango Pickles, buttermilk and Choru (Boiled Rice) is served as the main dish.
The traditional dessert called payasam served at the end of the meal is of many kinds such as Ada Pradhaman, Paal Payasam, Paal Ada, Payar Pradhaman, Parippu Pradhaman, Ari Payasam are the main dishes. Also, a banana is a must along with this.
