The story of Vallma kali starts from Aranmula, a historic hamlet on the riverbank of the Pampa River in Kerala's pathanamthitta district. According to legend, a pious Brahmin pledged to supply all of the Thiruvona Sadya's necessities. The Thiruvona Thoni, a boat, was to bring them to Aranmula sree Parthasarathy Temple. Throughout its journey, the boat was ambushed by opposing groups. In order to rescue it, the Palliyodam (Snake Boat) was built to safeguard the Thiruvona Thoni. And the magnificent tradition of the unique snake boat racing in the region was created as a result. The snake boat race is also considered as an offering to sree Parthasarathy Temple's Lord Krishna. This famous racing was also awarded many records all around the world.
