Indian army has long been the backbone of indian sports, with names like Major Dhyan Chand and Subedar Neeraj Chopra engraved in gold letters throughout indian sports history. The indian Army's Mission olympics programme began in 2001 as a Key Responsibility Area with the goal of raising the level of sports with the goal of winning medals at international events such as the Olympics.
Army sports Institute (ASI) at pune has produced 34 Olympians, 22 Commonwealth Games medalists, 21 Asian Games medalists, six youth Games medalists, and 13 arjuna Awardees. Aside from the athletes' devotion, the success of these athletes may be credited to the hard work of the ASI support team.
ASI, pune has grown into a premier sports training institute dedicated to preparing service athletes for international competitions through scientific talent identification, systematic training, world-class coaching, sports science support, international exposure, and good infrastructure in collaboration with the Armed Forces, National sports Federation, and other sports organisations at the national and international levels.
