Bharatnet network's tower infra for sale?

As part of its national monetisation pipeline(NMP), the government aims to earn Rs 35,100 crore through the partial sale of Bharatnet fibre assets and about 13,500 mobile towers controlled by state-run telecom businesses (NMP). niti aayog, a government think tank, has assessed the optical fibre assets deployed by BBNL and bsnl at Rs 26,300 crore. The project's overall authorised cost is Rs 61,109 crore, which comprises Rs 42,068 crore for BharatNet (Phase I and II) and a maximum of Rs 19,041 crore for viability gap finance (VGF) According to official figures given in Parliament, the government has spent Rs 24,201 crore on the PPP model of BharatNet deployment in 16 states as of march 31, 2021. Over the FY23 and FY24, an indicative monetisation value of Rs 26,300 crores has been estimated.

The bidding procedure for the Bharatnet project is scheduled to begin in FY22, with CAPEX being spent over two years following the award. During FY 22-25, the NMP plans to sell assets worth 6 lakh crore across several industries, with the telecom industry being for 6% of the total. According to the NMP, the Bharatnet project has laid 5,25,706 kilometres of optical fibre. The initiative was originally confined to 2.5 lakh gramme panchayats, but it has now been expanded to include villages.

During FY 22-25, the niti aayog plans to sell assets worth Rs. 6 lakh crore across several sectors, with the telecom industry accounting for 6% of the total. The NMP forecasts that the first phase of telecom asset monetisation, which is planned for FY23, will generate Rs 20,180 crore, including Rs 15,780 crore from Bharatnet fibre and Rs 4,400 crore from mobile tower sales. In FY24, revenue is expected to be Rs 14,920 crore, with Rs 10,520 crore coming from Bharatnet fibre and Rs 4,400 crore coming from the sale of bsnl and MTNL mobile towers.
