World Pulses Day 2022: History...


Pulses are very important for our body, keeping in view the importance of pulses, every year 10 february is celebrated as international Pulses Day. The purpose behind celebrating this day is to spread awareness about pulses. 

This year the theme of international Pulses Day is "Empowering youth through consumption of pulses and development through vegetarian diet".

 

History:

World Pulses Day is a United Nations event to recognize the importance of pulses as a global food. The United Nations General assembly adopted 2016 as the international Year of Pulses after recognizing the value of pulses in 2013. In 2019, the General assembly declared 10 february as World Pulses Day. Also, considering the importance of pulses, a goal has been set to double the production of pulses worldwide by 2050.


Lentils:

Pulses are also called legumes. Pulses are defined by the United Nations as "the edible seeds of leguminous plants grown for food". Peas, lentils, and dried beans are consumed the most in the world. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), pulses are very important crops. They contain different types of nutrients. Pulses are an ideal and economical source of protein for a large part of the world population.
