Costs to convert old cars and bikes into electric vehicles..!?
There are currently two types of automobile customers in India. One segment is the people who are waiting to buy new cars and bikes because they want to buy electric vehicles, on the other side are the people who are interested in buying electric cars and bikes but are unable to buy them because of the high price and continue to use old vehicles.
While there are crores of two-wheelers, 3-wheelers, and 4-wheelers with ICE engines across the country, it is not possible to convert all the vehicles into electric vehicles and achieve the net-zero goal in a short period of time. It was in this situation that the central government came up with the vehicle scrappage scheme to reduce the movement of old vehicles that use more fuel.
Under this scheme, all the vehicles older than 15 years are sent to an old shop and paid for it, but another problem is that this scheme is not convenient for many people. Meanwhile, the delhi government has invited companies to set up centers in delhi to convert old petrol and diesel cars into electric cars and started the registration process.
The plan of the delhi government is that only government-approved and authorized centers should provide conversion of old petrol and diesel vehicles to electric vehicles. It seems that at present more than 10 companies have registered with the delhi government to set up Retro Pitting Centers to convert electric vehicles.
With this framework, all 10 to 15-year-old vehicles can be converted into electric vehicles, eliminating the need to scrap the vehicles. If this retro pitting center setup and its products are successful, it has the potential to become a new business in the indian automobile industry.
The CEO of GOGOA1, a company that provides EV retrofitting services for two and three-wheelers, said in an interview that two-wheelers cost 20,000 to 40,000 rupees, 3-wheelers cost 50,000 rupees, and cars above 1000 cc cost 2.5 lakh rupees.
