Bombay High Court's scathing remark, illegal hoardings cannot be put up without the instigation of political leaders
Additional public prosecutor Bhupesh Samant told the bombay high court that though there is an intention to resolve the issue, there is a paucity of manpower to take action. The bench said that the issue should be raised.
The bombay high court on thursday said that illegal hoardings cannot be put up without the instigation of political leaders. A division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice MS Karnik asked whether there is any one leader who can say that he does not want these hoardings.
The bench also asked the authorities to root out the problem by not allowing such hoardings to be erected. The division bench was hearing several Public Interest Litigations (PILs) on the issue of illegal banners, hoardings and posters put up by political parties across the state. It has been said in these petitions that public places are dedata-faced by hoardings.
The high court in 2016 directed the state government and all municipal corporations to ensure that no illegal hoardings were put up in public places and directed the authorities to submit compliance reports. The bench then said that the political leaders should raise the issue. The bench fixed July 28 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
