The central government is going to make major changes in the higher education system. In this sequence, there is a plan to start a new four-year undergraduate program. The university Grants Commission (UGC) is going to issue the notification of new rules for Ph.D. Know-how research and postgraduate courses can be a new form.


1. Direct admission to Ph.D. after graduation

According to the news broadcast, a 4-year undergraduate program will be started. This 160-credit program will replace the existing three-year choice-based credit system at the undergraduate level. students can get a chance to join a Ph.D. course directly after completing this four-year degree program. The decision was taken by the UGC in its meeting on 10 March.


2. Admission can be taken from one institution to another

Apart from this, in the middle of the course in the new credit system, students will be allowed to leave one institution and take admission in any other institution. Not only this, if they want, they can also change the methods of study. For example, students attending classes daily can switch to online classes or hybrid classes in case of any problem.


3. The ban on changing streams will be removed

Under the UGC's 'Curricular Framework and Credit System for the Four Year Undergraduate Programme', the new undergraduate programs will break the boundaries of arts and science or curricular and extracurricular activities or vocational and academic streams. Simply put, students studying arts can switch to science courses whenever they want. Similarly, those with science can move to arts, academic streams with vocations, or extracurricular activities with curricular activities.
