For the first time, the President has issued a directive regarding the program of providing special scholarships to students who have improved and are going to higher grades. President Ranil Wickramasinghe has instructed to re-start the program of getting scholarships from the Presidential Fund for students who have passed the G.E.D. Ordinary Level Examination in the first instance and are qualified to study G.E.D. Higher Level.30 eligible students from an academic zone will be selected for this scholarship.Accordingly, this scholarship will be given to 2970 students who will be selected under 99 educational zones across the country.5,000/- per month for 24 months to the students selected for the scholarship, till they clear the G.E.C. Once the results of this year's G.E.D. Ordinary Level Examination is released and the G.E.D. Advanced Academic Year begins, and advertisements will be published in newspapers seeking applications for the award of this scholarship. The school students can use this scholarship to pursue their dream studies and excel in that relevant field.
Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake has instructed the Secretary of the Ministry of education to inform the Provincial Directors, Zonal education Directors and Principals in this regard.
