Is there a shortage of good colleges in India?Praful Ramdas Vanare, CEO of STRI Academy, said in a recent LinkedIn post, education in india is getting expensive and engineering is one of the most chosen options for middle class families as it does not cost much compared to other options. Getting admission in engineering is also easy as there are 4500+ engineering colleges in the country."Because there is a shortage of core jobs, people look for IT jobs despite their engineering. india is a big hub for producing engineers butsadly we do not have enough jobs for them. students from good colleges get hired in good companies and some students go for higher education but the rest 80%–90% have no options. Though many new startups are coming up and there are many IT giants in India butthey cannot hire lakhs of freshers every year." Prafulla Ramdas Vanare also said that if you are capable then you can get a good salary even as a fresher, but the sad thing is that despite having many colleges, the number of good colleges is veryless.50-70% drop in placements in private engineering collegesThe founder and CEO of Disenosys company said in his LinkedIn post, the placements of private engineering colleges have seen a decline of 50-70% in the year 2023. This figure is for IT, which is one of the departments with the highest placements in engineering. The figure for mechanical engineering is even lower. Because companies are looking at their hiring policies, they are now rarely willing to take a new person and train them for the job. Instead, they are looking for capable and experienced engineers as they are now in good numbers in the market. He further said,so mechanical engineers who are graduates become unemployed either due to lack of experience or mainly due to lack of ability that companies need. Then after some time they are forced to spend lakhs of rupees to go into their field of interest. If they had got the right guidance earlier, they could have been saved.
