The literacy rate in the country has reached around 81 percent and the government aims to move towards 100% literacy rate. Union minister of State for education gave this information in response to a question asked in Parliament.
In response to a question in Parliament, Union minister of State for education Jayant Chaudhary gave information on the status of literacy in the country. He said that the literacy rate in india in the age group of 7 years and above is 80.9%. This figure is based on the report of the Periodic Labor Force survey (PLFS) of 2023-24, which has been prepared by the National Statistical office (NSSO).

The government has reiterated its commitment to 100% literacy. The National education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphadata-sizes on adult education and lifelong learning. Responding, the minister of State for education informed that full literacy in india is defined as 95% or more literacy rate as per UNESCO definition. At present, Ladakh, Mizoram, goa and Tripura have been declared fully literate states.
