IGNOU Extends 2026 Admission and Re Registration Deadline — New Last Date Announced

The Indira Gandhi National Open university (IGNOU) has once again extended the deadline for fresh admissions and re‑registration for the January 2026 academic session, offering prospective and continuing students more time to complete their enrolment formalities.

Revised Last Date for Fresh Admission and Re‑Registration

IGNOU has extended the last date for both fresh admissions and re‑registration for its January 2026 session until 15 february 2026. This new deadline applies to programmes offered under both Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online mode, giving students additional opportunity to apply or renew their registration before the session closes.

Earlier, the deadline was set at 31 january 2026, but many learners were unable to complete the process in time due to various reasons, prompting the university to announce the extension.

Who Can Benefit from the Extension?

The extension is applicable mainly to:

  • Fresh applicants seeking to join undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and other programmes via ODL or online modes for the january 2026 session.
  • Continuing students who must re‑register to remain enrolled and progress to the next semester or academic year.
    Both categories of learners can now complete their forms and submit required documents by the new deadline of 15 february 2026.
However, the extension does not cover semester‑based or certificate‑only courses in some cases, as these may have their own separate timelines or requirements.

How to Apply or Re‑Register

Students are required to complete the application process online through IGNOU’s official portals:

  • Fresh admissions and programme details: through the IGNOU admissions portal.
  • Re‑registration submissions: students can use the dedicated re‑registration portal with their user ID and password.
    Learners must also upload necessary documents (such as photo, signature, and academic certificates) and pay any applicable registration or re‑registration fees online before the revised deadline.
Why the Extension Matters

The deadline extension provides a relief to many applicants and current learners who might have data-faced technical issues, delays in fee payment, or submission troubles during the earlier window. Re‑registration is crucial for continuing students because missing the deadline can result in disruptions to their academic progress, including eligibility for upcoming assignments and exams.
