Sanitisers: At least 80 people have attempted suicide by drinking hand sanitizer in Hyderabad. Apart from this, 20 more cases have come from around the city. For the past two years, people have been using hand sanitizers fiercely. Everyone keeps it in their homes to avoid corona infection. But in recent times, it has been seen that along with protecting against the virus, sanitizer has become a life-threatening situation for many families. Its biggest borrowing is Hyderabad. According to a report, a large number of people here are drinking sanitizers to commit suicide.


According to the english newspaper Times of India, during the last one year, at least 80 people in hyderabad have attempted suicide by drinking hand sanitizer. Apart from this, 20 more cases have come from around the city. All these figures are from Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).



What is the reason?

According to experts, due to Corona, people's access to sanitizer has become very easy. Many people are also drinking it by mixing it with alcohol to have fun. Dr Ashima Sharma, Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine, NIMS, told the Times of India, “While some people have consumed it directly, in many cases people have a tendency to mix it with alcohol. The use of sanitizers has increased dramatically since the pandemic hit, mainly due to ease of access. Now sanitizers are among other substances like floor cleaners, bathroom cleaners, disinfectant herbicides and insecticides used by people.


50 percent sanitizer fake

According to one figure, 50 percent of the sanitizers in the market these days are fake. According to experts, the use of sanitizer causes irritation in the gastrointestinal tract. Although patients usually survive, they repeatedly enter a long cycle of surgeries. A junior doctor in the emergency department at the state's gandhi Hospital said, "Many youths living in hostels, who have failed in love or failed in exams, often try to commit suicide using anything that is readily available." . Usually, we see cases of extensive gastrointestinal tract burns, as most end up swallowing a whole bottle of sanitiser.
