Rabindranath Tagore Death Anniversary...

It is a matter of 1905, the Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon, announced the partition of Bengal. This decision was taken after talks between Lord Curzon and representatives of the Muslim community in a meeting. In the meeting, the importance of the need for a separate country was explained to the Muslim community for their identity. Curzon believed that due to the large Muslim population in assam, they should be separated from the Hindu-majority region of West Bengal, bihar and Odisha. The order of this department was passed in august 1905. It was implemented on 16 october 1905. That year, october 16 was Rakhi purnima day.

Rabindranath Tagore opposed partition

Then rabindranath tagore took steam of this divide and rule intention of the british government and strongly opposed it. He inspired Hindu-Muslims to tie Rakhi to each other in the spirit of brotherhood.

The scene of that period was also historical when every Hindu was seen tying Rakhi to every Muslim. Of course, the british were successful in their trick and this division did not stop, but from that scene, it was definitely proved that the Hindu-Muslim did not really want any such division.

How was that scene of Hindu-Muslim tying Rakhi?

According to reports, that day of october 16, 1905, was such that Tagore started his day with a dip in the Ganges. Just after this, their protest started from the banks of the ganges itself. From there a procession was taken out. Tagore continued to walk along the streets of kolkata with the procession and tied rakhis to whatever he found on the way. He had a bundle of rakhis with him. The result was that the partition was averted for some time, but in 1912 bihar, assam and orissa were separated from it.
