Why Martyrs Day is only observed on this particular day?
The word martyrdom is used for those who have sacrificed their lives in the service of the motherland with a smile. Today is march 23, which we celebrate as Martyr's Day (Shaheed Diwas). There would be hardly anyone who would not know the history and importance of this day. Still we say it again. India observes Shaheed Diwas, also known as Martyrs' Day, on a number of days to honor the freedom fighters who gave their lives defending the nation. To honor the sacrifice of Bhagat Singh, Shivram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar who were hanged by the british, march 23 is observed as Martyrs' Day. In india, two Shaheed Diwas are celebrated each year: the first on january 30 and the second on march 23.On this day in 1931, indian youth revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar were hanged by the british rulers. At the age of just 23, this young man had sacrificed his life for the motherland, due to which he is called as 'Shaheed-e-Azam'. After this sacrifice, the young blood in the whole country boiled to get freedom. For this reason, this day is considered very important in the history of the indian freedom movement.
