The legend states that Lord krishna cut the sudarshan Chakra by mistake once. Draupadi saw that he was hurt and tore a saree piece, tying it to stop the bleeding. Lord Krishna, moved by her generosity, vowed to keep Draupadi safe eternally. He kept his word when the Kauravas attempted to strip Draupadi in front of the entire Hastinapur royal court, publicly humiliating her.Another tradition links Goddess Indrani and Lord indra to the festival's inception. Drik Panchang claims that the tale illustrates the significance of sacred thread. Demons challenged Lord Indra, but he was outmatched in might. Lord indra defeated the demons because Goddes Indrani tied a holy pouch called Raksha Potali on his hand as he was heading into battle. For Hindus, Raksha Bandhan is a very important festival.
