What is the National Security Guard?

The National Security Guard (NSG) is a special and highly-trained security force of India, which has been established especially for anti-terrorism operations and the protection of important persons. NSG was established in the year 1984. It was formed to deal with the growing terrorist threats in the country after the assassination of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi.

The NSG is specially trained to intervene in terrorist attacks and crisis situations. This includes operations against terrorists and handling high-security targets. Apart from this, NSG commandos also handle the task of protecting important government persons, such as the prime minister and other high-level officials. The NSG is trained for special operations in difficult conditions, such as hijacks, hostage situations and other emergency situations.

The important functions of the Secret service include the responsibility of protecting the President, Vice President and other high officials. Apart from this, it investigates and prevents cases related to counterfeit currency and other financial crimes.

Expansion in the 20th century

Over time, the Secret service also expanded its responsibilities. After the year 1901, in addition to protecting the President and other high government officials, it also included investigating financial crimes and monitoring them, especially credit card fraud, bank fraud, and other financial crimes. In the year 2003, after the establishment of the US Department of Homeland Security, the Secret service was transferred under this department.
