The city of Jalore in western rajasthan, famously dubbed the ‘Granite City,’ is currently filled with the delightful aroma of peanuts, often referred to as the ‘poor man’s almond.’
Local peanut trader Nasrul Khan shared with Local18, “Our peanuts are roasted with salt to enhance their flavor. They are rich in vitamin E, which is great for the skin and hair.”
Roasted peanuts are sold for ₹160 per kg, while raw peanuts cost ₹140 per kg. In Jalore, the peanut trade has evolved beyond just a snack; it’s become a part of a healthier lifestyle.
Health Benefits of Peanuts
Dr. Shriram Vaidya from Sushruta Ayurvedic Hospital highlighted the numerous health benefits of peanuts, stating that they are packed with protein, fiber, and healthy fats, which promote heart health and assist with weight management. rajasthan is one of India’s major groundnut producers, with Jalore being a significant contributor. As the season begins, fresh peanuts can be found on every street corner.
