Kamal Haasan comments on Physically Challenged People

Kamal Haasan, leader of the Makkal Neethi Mayyam party, has called for a change in the lives of people with disabilities and regarding this, he said, "There are about 14 lakh disabled people in tamil Nadu and they have been struggling for the last several years emphasizing various demands. The tamil Nadu Legislative assembly is scheduled to hold a debate on the Department of Disability Grants request on september 1st in the budget session for the current financial year. 


The government should take note of the following long-standing demands on behalf of the Association for the Protection of the Rights of All Persons with Disabilities and other associations. The monthly stipend for the specially challenged people should be increased just like neighboring states. In states like andhra pradesh and Telangana, Rs 3,000 is given to the disabled and Rs 5,000 is given to the severely disabled and this should be implemented in tamil Nadu as well. 


The Govt should provide 5 percent reservation for all those in vacancies in the public sector and Ensure 5 percent reservation for the disabled people in the private employment sector as well. Public places, including government offices, bus stations, beaches, theaters, and shopping malls, should be provided with structural facilities for the use of persons with disabilities and it should be constructed at once."
