Scream 6 is finally moving ahead, with Paramount and Spyglass media set to start filming the horror followup this summer. The slasher genre began in 1996 with the Wes Craven-directed film of the same name, which followed Sidney Prescott in the small california town of Woodsboro as she is stalked by an unknown assailant dressed as Ghostdata-face. Scream's popularity spawned a four-film sequel series as well as an MTV tv series with no connections to the films' plots.
The latest chapter, simply called Scream, picks up a decade after the fourth movie, when Woodsboro is attacked by a new Ghostdata-face impersonator who is primarily targeting sam Carpenter, a lady with ties to the city's violent past. The repeated killings pique the interest of the original characters, Dewey Riley (David Arquette), Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox), and Sidney (Neve Campbell), who are all brought back in an attempt to put an end to the assaults for good.
Scream 6, which debuted in theatres less than a month ago, has been confirmed by Paramount and Spyglass. The new film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and will be based on a screenplay by james Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, with shooting set to begin this summer. In a joint declaration, Paramount and Spyglass announced the news.
