A day before the season 1 finale airs on HBO Max, james Gunn confirms that Peacemaker has been renewed for season 2. The series is a spinoff from Gunn's premiere in the DC Extended Universe, The Suicide Squad, and it stars john Cena as the titular character. Along with Cena, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Viola Davis make cameo appearances in Peacemaker, which also introduces Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Freddy Stroma, Chukwudy Iwuji, Lochlyn Mundro, and Annie Chang to the DCEU.
Four months after the happenings of The Suicide Squad, christopher Smith has recovered completely from his botched operation and has been re-enlisted by Amanda Waller to enter Project Butterfly. The black operations team is entrusted with tracking down and eliminating extraterrestrial parasite entities before they can complete their plans to overrun the Earth, led by shady mercenary Clemson Murn and includes fresh blood Leota Adebayo and A.R.G.U.S. agents john Economos and Emilia Harcourt.
Since its january premiere on HBO Max, Peacemaker has been a critical success, and because to its high viewership, it appears to be just making headway. With only one day until the season 1 conclusion, james Gunn took to twitter to report that HBO Max had renewed Peacemaker for a second season. The show's creator/writer/director thanked the actors, producers, and viewers for contributing to make the show a success and pave the path for its renewal.
