Why Day Shift's Vampire Hunters Being Different From Blade Is A Good Thing
Day Shift is pitching itself as a take on vampire hunting that more closely resembles a buddy cop movie blended with the story of a down-on-his-luck protagonist in Bud's desire for a quick paycheck to protect his wife and daughter from leaving, lacking Blade's place in the superhero genre. With a plot like that and characters that are much more in over their heads than Blade ever was, Day Shift is appropriately different from the vampire-hunting tropes that fans of Blade are used to (and its MCU reboot with Mahershala Ali). Because of this, comparisons become much less of an issue, and Day Shift is in a far better position to appeal to viewers searching for a unique take on the vampire hunting subgenre.
