Superstar Rajinikanth in his congratulatory post had wished all chess players who are participating in the chess olympiad today. He said that chess is his favorite indoor game. He wished God's blessings to the contestants. The 44th international Chess Olympiad is going to be held for the first time in India.
 It has been announced that this competition which started today in Mamallapuram will be held till august 10. More than 2000 international chess players from around 187 countries have participated in these tournaments.
Earlier, the prime minister had started the Chess Olympiad torch on the 19th to create awareness about this event. The torch crossed various states and reached chennai across the country and reached Chennai.
Only four districts including chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and kanchipuram have been declared a local holiday in connection with this competition. Competitors from abroad have been visiting chennai for the past one week. It is said that a menu of more than 3500 dishes has been prepared for them.
