Award-winning director james cameron predicted that "Avatar: The Way of Water" will make enough money to fund the production of the other sequels to his franchise. The director went viral in november after telling GQ magazine that "The Way of Water" would have to "be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history" just to break even," according to Variety. He was speaking on this week's episode of "Who's Talking to chris Wallace?"

The sequel has already surpassed "Top: Gun Maverick" as the highest-grossing film of 2022 with over $1.5 billion in global box office receipts. "It looks like I can't get out of this and I'm going to have to do these additional sequels," cameron said. "With the momentum that the film has now, we'll easily pass our break even in the next few days." "I already know what I'll be doing for the next six to seven years."

Cameron noted that the movie was profitable: "We'll be fine, that's the key. We've already shot and photographed the entire film, so we're in extended post-production to do all that CG magic. I'm sure we'll have a meeting with the senior Disney officials about the game plan moving ahead for "Avatar 3" soon."
