The head-to-head release of Vijay's Varisu and Ajith's Thunivu will take place on january 11, 2023, a wednesday shortly before the pongal weekend. Both movies have been distributed to several theatres throughout tamil Nadu (TN), but negotiations have not yet been finalised in some areas. The midnight and early morning movie showings are already selling out like hotcakes.
Almost every theatre is showing both movies because even single screens alternate between Varisu and Thunivu at various show times. According to reports, Thunivu currently has a 5% advantage over the other app in terms of screen share. Cinemas frequently take advantage of the popularity of a star hero by hosting special fan events and charging high rates for movie tickets.
In tamil Nadu, the battle has generated a tremendous amount of interest for both movies. As the two biggest stars in tamil Nadu, Vijay and Ajith, the demand for tickets for early morning screenings for both of their films is out of control due to the splitting of the screens. For several theatres, the exhibitors have not released the tickets at the counter or online, and they are instead selling them straight on the black market to capitalise on the mania. The tickets are selling for 1500, 2000, and it is said that other well-known screens are also selling them for 2500, 3000. In tamil Nadu, Thunivu Shows begin around one in the morning, and Varisu Shows begin at four.
