Indian Govt Arrested Amazon Execs, but now Joined with Them...
In an effort to support India's creative sector at a time when the future of streaming has come into doubt following COVID, amazon india has inked a letter of Engagement (LoE) with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB).
The goal is to "create capacity across eminent film and tv institutes, help build pathways to promote creative talent in india, and globally showcase 'Made in India' creative content." The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and Amazon-owned IMDB will collaborate to find and list indian talent by displaying their profiles and talents on IMDB's ranking platform. The film institute of india and Satyajit Ray Film and television Institute will also offer internships and scholarships.
Prime Video and MiniTV, an amazon streaming service in india, will feature content from NFDC, Doordarshan, and the international Film festival of India. Along with promoting journals and books, the LoE will include ties to Alexa and amazon Music. Ironically, amazon executives were detained after a dispute between the MIB and Prime Video over the indian original Taandav. Ultimately, two scenes were cut, and following concerns from the BJP, filmmaker ali Abbas Zafar issued an apology. amazon has chosen to cooperate extensively with the authorities for the time being.
