On 4 december 2017, sunil made his bride Sonam his 'forever' in a grand wedding ceremony in Kolkata. While sunil was dressed in a traditional Nepali dress with a cap for the wedding, his bride Sonam looked gorgeous in a red Bengali dress. Sunil Chhetri scored his 86th goal for india in the year 2023 against Vanuatu in international Cup. The match took place on 12 june 2003 at the Kalinga Stadium in bhubaneswar (Orissa). It was indeed a special moment for Sunil's side, as the footballer scored the winning goal in the 81st minute, much to the delight of the indian fans. sunil was then seen walking towards the stadium with the ball inside his jersey shirt to celebrate the goal, where his wife was standing in the gallery cheering for him.

Soon sunil was seen stroking the football like a baby bump under his shirt and kissing his wife Sonam. The moment was memorable and thus he announced that his wife was pregnant. Sonam too radiated a beautiful pregnancy glow in a few videos, capturing moments from inside the stadium

After the match, sunil also revealed how he and his wife Sonam wanted to share the news similarly. However, he also jokingly called the moment super clingy but revealed how he and Sonam had decided to announce the news after scoring a goal in the match.

When sunil Chhetri revealed his love story with Sonam 

Earlier, sunil Chhetri had revealed his love story with his wife Sonam Bhattacharya on the official social media profile of 'Humans Of Bombay'. He had told that Sonam, the daughter of his coach Subrata Bhattacharya, had contacted him by stealing his number from his father's phone.

Sunil told that at that time he was only 18 years old and Sonam was 15 years old. After this, both of them talked on the phone for some time. However, after some time he dissuaded him from doing so, as he was afraid of losing his career. After this a few months passed and sunil could not get her off his mind. So he called Sonam back.

Later sunil and Sonam start talking again without telling anyone. However, since sunil traveled a lot, they met only two or three times a year. Year by year their love and bonding increased with each other. sunil also praised his wife for being his support system.

Eventually, when the time came and sunil had to talk to Sonam's father about their marriage, the footballer locked himself inside the bathroom for hours. However, as soon as sunil came out, Sonam's father approved of the couple and the rest is history.
