The artist used artificial intelligence (AI) to reproduce their voices for the song 'Thimiri Yezhuda' in Rajinikanth's 'Lal Salaam'. rahman said that he obtained permission from their families and paid for it. Rahman, a prominent experimentalist, used artificial intelligence to replicate the voices of two late legends for a film. He used AI voice models to bring the voices of the late Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed back to life.
The composer wrote, "We took permission from their families and sent deserving remuneration for using their voice algorithms...technology is not a threat and a nuisance if we use it right...#respect #nostalgia (sic)."
Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed collaborated extensively with AR Rahman, producing several chart-topping songs. While Shahul Hameed died in a vehicle accident in 1997, Bamba Bakya died from heart arrest in 2022. While some people praised AR rahman for asking permission and compensating their families, others described it as 'unethical'.
