"Surya S/O Krishnan" (Varanam Ayiram in Tamil) starring surya became a classic film, especially loved for its music composed by harris Jairaj. gautham Menon, the director, recently revealed some previously unknown details about the casting choices and the inspiration behind the story.


Menon shared that the story of the film was inspired by events in his own life, particularly the emotional turmoil he experienced after his father's death in 2007. The film, which revolves around surya reminiscing about his past life with his father, served as a tribute to Menon's late father. While the film received critical acclaim in tamil Nadu, it was also well-received in Telugu.


Regarding casting, menon disclosed that mohanlal and nana patekar were his initial choices for the role of Surya's father, Krishnan. However, surya persuaded him to play both the father and son roles, a decision that proved successful for the film. Additionally, deepika padukone was approached for the role of Meghna, but due to scheduling conflicts, she had to opt out, and sameera reddy eventually portrayed the character.


Despite the initial casting hurdles, the film's ensemble, including simran as Surya's mother, contributed to its success. "Varanam Ayiram" was released in 2008, with surya delivering a memorable performance in the dual roles of father and son. The film beautifully captures the story of indian Army Major surya, who learns about his father's death while on a rescue mission. Even today, the film continues to resonate with audiences, enjoying popularity on television and OTT platforms.
