In an interview given to bollywood Hungama, anand l rai revealed that ranbir kapoor was initially the first choice for the film. anand l rai said that if I had faith in myself, I would have made Tanu Weds manu 2, but Himanshu and I felt that a film like Raanjhanaa needed to be told. He praised Ranbir a lot and said that he adapts himself to every kind of role.Anand L Rai said- He is such an actor who keeps himself simple and dissolves himself in the role, which is a difficultthing.This is Ranbir 


Kapoor but he was not available at that time. We were looking for another actor at that time and we found Dhanush.

Dhanush became iconic with Raanjhanaa. His performance was such that everyone became his fan. This film proved to be a super hit at the box office. Along with Sonam and dhanush, Abhay Deol, Swara Bhaskar, and Zeeshan Ayub were also seen playing important roles in the film.
