Ilaiyaraaja is celebrated as one of India's greatest music composers, with a remarkable career spanning over 48 years. He has composed more than 7,000 songs and created scores for over 1,000 films, performing in more than 20,000 concerts. The composer recently held a concert in kumbakonam, a town in thanjavur district. This marked a departure from his usual performances, which typically take place in major cities or abroad. On september 14, Ilaiyaraaja hosted this event at a private college, though rain delayed the start. Despite the weather, fans enjoyed the concert, with videos of the event capturing the joyful atmosphere going viral on social media.
Moved by the support from his fans, Ilaiyaraaja shared his plans for a comprehensive music tour across tamil Nadu. He posted a video of the rain-soaked concert on X, stating, “To the people of kumbakonam who came out in heavy rain to enjoy my concert, your support is unforgettable. Thank you! From now on, my musical journey will take me to all towns in tamil Nadu, not just the capital.”
Ilaiyaraaja made history as the first indian composer to record a soundtrack using a computer for the 1986 film Vikram, and he also composed Thiruvasagam in Symphony in 2006, marking the first indian oratorio.
