BJP leader Roopa Ganguly arrested; protested outside overnight?
Former rajya sabha member and bjp leader roopa ganguly, who played the role of Draupadi in BR Chopra's tv serial 'Mahabharata', has been arrested. She was sitting on a dharna in front of a police station in South kolkata since wednesday night, demanding the release of local female bjp leader Ruby Das.
Das was also among the bjp supporters arrested on wednesday evening. All of them were protesting against the death of a school child. The child was hit by a payloader. It was being used by kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) employees to repair the road. As soon as the news of the arrest of the activists was received, Ganguly reached the local Bansdroni police station in South kolkata and started a dharna there demanding the release of Das.
What did roopa ganguly allege?
Ganguly claimed that Das and other bjp supporters were protesting peacefully when local trinamool congress workers attacked them. She also alleged that the police arrested the protesters instead of taking action against the attackers. Ganguly sat on a dharna throughout the night and was finally arrested by the kolkata police around 10 am on Thursday. She was soon taken away from the Bansdroni police station premises in a police vehicle.
After the arrest, Ganguly alleged that the police did not even allow her to take her bag. At the same time, according to the police, Ganguly has been arrested for obstructing the work of the policemen. Meanwhile, there is tremendous anger among the local people over the unfortunate death of the school child. people are angry that trinamool congress councilor Anita Kar Majumdar did not reach the spot till hours after the accident. Rupa Ganguly is a famous name in hindi and bengali cinema. She became known in every household for the role of Draupadi in the tv show 'Mahabharata'. Later she joined bjp and also became a rajya sabha member.
