Experts say that prolonged exposure to extremely bad air can cause respiratory diseases. Along with this, the second phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has come into effect. Experts said that meteorological conditions are unfavorable for the effective dispersion of pollutants. Calm winds are blowing during the night. In such a situation, the air quality is getting extremely bad due to additional emissions from sources like stubble burning.

According to CPCB, AQI remained in the very severe category in 10 areas including Shadipur, rk Puram, and Mundka. While AQI was recorded in the very poor category in 22 areasincluding Bawana, North Campus, andBurari. According to the indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), on Monday the wind blew from south-east to north-east direction. During this time the wind speed was six to ten kilometers per hour. At the same time, the share of stubble smoke in the air can be 6.86 percent on Tuesday. According to the data of the Decision Support System (DSS), the smoke caused by burning garbage in the open in air pollution was 0.989 percent. While the share of pollution caused by traffic was only 9.953 percent.

The air Quality Management Commission held a meeting on Monday regarding the increasing pollution. In such a situation, the second phase of GRAP will come into effect from 8 am on Tuesday. It has recommended increasing vehicle parking charges. At the same time, increasing CNG/electric bus and metro services. Also, to avoid burning biomass in the open during winter, resident welfare associations will necessarily provide electric heaters to security personnel. Till now this exemption was for generators of 125 kilowatts to 800 kilowatts.

That is, more generators that follow the rules will be able to operate this time. There will be no ban on dual-fuel diesel sets with a capacity of 19 kilowatts to 62 kilowatts. Generators of this range can be used for emergency services where there is no dual fuel and PNG infrastructure. Earlier, all generators of this range could be used for emergency services. Also, the restrictions of the first phase of GRAP will remain in force. It prohibits work on private construction and demolition projects with a plot data-size equal to or more than 500 square meters. Let us tell you that those works are banned whichare not registered on the state government portal for remote monitoring of dust mitigation measures. Along with taking punitive action against thermal power plants, there is a complete ban on the use of coal and firewood in tandoors in hotels, restaurants, and open eateries.
