Govt Blocks 5 OTT Platforms Over Obscene Content ..?
The action was taken under Section 69A of the Information technology Act, 2000, which allows the government to restrict public access to online content on specific legal grounds.
The decision followed multiple complaints regarding violations of wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital content regulations.
Platforms Blocked by the Government
The five OTT platforms that have been blocked are:
MoodXVIP
Koyal Playpro
Digi Movieplex
Feel
Jugnu
Authorities stated that due process was followed before restricting access.
Internet service Providers (ISPs) have been instructed to disable access to these apps and websites.
The action was also taken under the Information technology (Intermediary Guidelines and wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
Reason for the Crackdown
The platforms were allegedly hosting obscene, vulgar, and pornographic content.
Officials said the content violated legal and ethical standards set for wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital media platforms in India.
The rules aim to:
Uphold public decency
Protect national interest
Ensure accountability of OTT platforms.
Authorities emphadata-sized the need for stricter monitoring of online streaming services.
Previous OTT Ban Actions
This is not the first crackdown on OTT platforms.
In July 2025, the government blocked 25 OTT platforms over similar allegations.

An advisory was released in february 2025
The action reportedly came after consultations with various government departments and civil society groups.
Ullu and ALTT Under Scrutiny
Previously, platforms like Ullu, ALTT, and Big Shots App data-faced action.
Authorities claimed some banned platforms resumed operations using new domains.
Reports stated that over 100 web series were removed from Ullu but later re-uploaded in unedited formats.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had flagged Ullu and ALTT over objectionable content.
The wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital Publisher Content Grievances Council (DPCGC) described some ALTT content as “totally distasteful and bizarre,” alleging a lack of storyline and inappropriate themes.
