Sethupathi Tamil Movie Review, Rating
Vijay Sethupathi is now back as a cop. 'Sethupathi' is crafted by S.U.Arun Kumar who earlier shaped 'Panayaarum Padminiyum'. Remya Nambeesan does the female lead role. The movie has Vela Ramamurthy and Nirmal Vinod in supporting character roles. Technical team includes A.Sreekar Prasad for editing. 'Sethupathi' is a routine cop story where a honest cop stands against bad guys and he data-faces threat of saving his family too. The movie is a perfect blend of Action, romance and humour. Vijay Sethupathi as 'Sethupathi' has done an earnest effort to fit shoes of a ruthless cop perfectly.
Vijay Sethupathi is one of the best actors around, and he has many definitive roles. His role as 'Sethupathi' is one among them. He acts with such charm and smoothness. He shows both ruthlessness and also the soft corner. The best thing about the movie is not due to the plot, but due to the character development. Most of the scenes show the other side of police men too. The romance between Ramya and Vijay Sethupathi is so good. We all get tempted to see such a romantic couple. Remya proves her mettle once again. She is absolutely gorgeous as an home maker. Vela Ramamoorthy has done justice to his role.
It's good to see Vijay Sethupathi as an action hero. He fits the bill perfectly as a ruthless cop. The action scenes are tailor made for him. The action scenes show heroics as well as they are realistic. Nivas K.Prasanna's music elevate the scene to next level. He is definitely a good find in Tamil cinema. He has a strong future and he can achieve greater heights in coming days. Editing is the biggest strength. The first half of the movie runs for 63 minutes and second half just runs for 58 minutes. A.Sreekar Prasad shows his versatility as an editor. The cuts are not random. They are perfect. Songs don't seem as barricades. 'Hey Mama', 'Hawa Hawa' are sure to be pick of the albums. Two tracks are instrumentals. Dinesh Krishnan's cinematography is simple and neat. There are no specific camera angles to show transformation and so on.
'Sethupathi' is a perfect, true to life movie which is based on the life of a police officer. The movie has same plot like many other movies, but what makes it distinct from other movies is , the treatment in screenplay. The character development was so good and each scene evokes an interest in us. The movie on the whole is entertaining and the flaws are so less. We don't see a 'Singam' or 'Saamy' here. But it is a mixture of Hari and Gautam Menon.
