REVIEW : PULI

Sudeep , 'Thambi' Ramiah, CinematographySudeep , 'Thambi' Ramiah, CinematographyStory, Screenplay, Direction, Shrutihaasan, Vijay, Self-praising , Political dialogues'Vethaladesam' is an evil territory which is ruled by Evil Queen Sridevi. The people inside Vedaladesam are called as 'Vedalam'. They often attack nearby Villagers and they force them to pay taxes. One good day Prabhu finds a baby on the river with a egg nearby. The egg breaks and becomes a Talking bird and the baby becomes Vijay. And now...... Ok ok.. we understand that you all are bored.. Let's skip the stereotypes. Vijay and Shrutihaasan fall in love and they get married.  Real Vedalam warriors abduct Shrutihaasan and take her to the Vedaladesam. Vijay disguises himself as 'Vedalam' warrior and  with two comedy sidekicks he is on a journey to rescue her. But he comes to know about his past life and how he rescues the villagers from the Evil Queen forms the rest of the story.

Vijay as Marutheeran and Puliventhan has tried to do something new and innovative and has failed miserably. Especially when he came out with long hair in 'Puliventhan' make over, the entire theatre bursted into laughter. The slow motion sequences where his hair flows, gives us some idea, whether he's fighting or doing 'Dabur' advertisement. His dialogue modulation is just pathetic. It is always painful for fans when their favourite actors choose such pathetic scripts. Shrutihaasan has nothing to do except show he midriff and tempt teenagers. A small hint for teenagers, take napkin with you as you may get tempted with Shrutihaasan. More than her acting, it's her crappy voice which annoys us. Sridevi as Evil Queen has nothing to do except laughing hysterically. Hansika also doesn't offer much other than skin show. The oomph factor is high and it makes us wonder whether it is Kids movie or Adults only movie. Sudeep and Thambi Ramiah were the only positives. Sudeep as antagonist fits the bill perfectly. Thambi Ramiah evokes smile on our depressed and anger data-faces at places. However Vidyu, Robo Shankar, Ali and Sathyan were not used to their potential. Nandita and Prabhu just appear and they kick the bucket to create some sentiments. Rest of the cast is not even recognized.

Chimbudeven has failed as a director and screenplay writer. He proves his mettle in each frame. The first few minutes were taken from 'Brave Heart' and lots of Hollywood movie shades. No character has been used to the full extent. Dialogues evoke laughter. Natty's cinematography is Vibrant and colourful. He has shown the village sets and castle sets in a realistic way with some perfect colourization. Art director despite high budget has used school drama sets. Sreekar Prasad could have made better cuts as first half tests patience with some so called comedy sequences. Music is yet another flop show. Devi Sri Prasad who has given some sweet music in Telugu has produced rotten music for 'Puli'.

'Puli' has a wafer thin plot and a loose screenplay. Also lots of self-praising dialogues and Political motivated dialogues keeps on annoying everyone. Lots of sequences look amaterurish. And VFX director Kamala Kannan has compare the VFX with 'Baahubali' which is a shame to 'Baahubali'. The story takes lots of time to establish the plot and this will definitely test everyone's patience. And finally this is not a 'FANTASY MOVIE' or 'KIDS MOVIE'. Some one can argue that you can't look for logic in a fantasy movie. But in this movie, the 'FANTASY' element itself is missing. And you can't say this as a 'KIDS MOVIE' as lots of skin show from the two female leads spoil the party for kids.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay,Sridevi,Sudeep,Shruti Haasan,Hansika Motwani,Chimbu Deven,Shibu Thameens & PT Selvakumar,Devi Sri Prasad Overall, 'Puli' is one giant abysmal joke.
