Neeraj Chopra clinches Gold!

India's champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has won the gold medal at the Asian Games 2018, increasing India's gold medal tally to 8 in the Asian Games. He had thrown 83.46 metres in his first throw, which became the mark for medal. Out of six attempts Neeraj had two fouls, his second and sixth attempts. His had thrown  88.06 metres in third attempt and 83.25 metres in his fourth attempt and his fifth attempt was a massive 86.36 metres.

 


In this process, he also destroyed his own national record when he cleared a distance of 88.06m. Neeraj Chopra's gold is India's second javelin throw medal in Asian Games history following the bronze won by Gurtej Singh in 1982 in New Delhi.China's Liu Qizhen came second with a throw of 82.22m and Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem clinched bronze with a throw of  80.75.

 


Deepak Chopra, the Commonwealth Games and Asian champion overshadowed everyone in the competition and no other competitors had 85 or above throw. Deepak Chopra also holds the junior world record of 86.48, and in this season he had been in terrific form crossing 85m mark consistently. He had earlier won Federation Cup with 85.94m, commonwealth gold coast gold with throw of 86.47m.
