Will Sterlite be Reopened again to meet India's Oxygen Crisis?
We reported earlier that Sterlite copper Plant has appealed to supreme court to re-start the plant so that it can be utilized to meet the ongoing demand for Medical Oxygen. Sterlite has come forward to provide the oxygen for free of cost. Sterlite copper Unit in Tuticorin could produce tonnes of oxygen and it is ready to give the oxygen for free of cost to treat the COVID-19 patients.
Senior Advocate Harish Salve who appeared in favor of Vedanta plead with the supreme court to grant permission to meet India's demand for Oxygen. However, the tamil Nadu government opposed the plea. In this case, tamil Nadu cm Edappadi Palaniswami has called an all-party meeting tomorrow at the state secretariat regarding Vedanta's Sterlite Plant issue for the production of medical oxygen.
Social activist Fatima Babu who is against Sterlite has confessed to the media that Sterlite can operate the plant after dismantling the equipment which is not necessary for the production of Oxygen. DMK Supremo MK stalin is expected to attend this all-party meeting and a verdict is expected from the political parties. Earlier, Thoothukudi collector tried to ask opinion from the people of Thoothukudi and it resulted in chaos as protesters started war of words with each other.
