ONV will now reconsider their award to Vairamuthu after Harassment issues

Yesterday we reported about ONV Cultural Academy giving this year's ONV Kurup literary award to poet-lyricist Vairamuthu. Parvathy and several other actresses lashed out at this decision. Lots of them said not to give this award to the controversial lyricist, who has been accused of sexual harassment by around 17 women. 



Now, a decision to reconsider giving the award to vairamuthu was made on the advice of the jury. Even netizens opposed this decision. Even though Adoor Gopalakrishnan had backed Vairamuthu, stating that the award is given for excellence in writing and not after examining a person's character. Speaking to the press, he said, 



"Vairamuthu was considered by the jury for his excellent writing. I do not know if the jury knows he is a person facing such charges. My personal opinion is that awards should not be decided on the basis of character." kerala CM pinarayi vijayan is the Chief Patron of the Academy. For the past few days, singer Chinmayi is also raising her voice against vairamuthu on her social media pages. She is the one who initiated all the accusations against the poet on her social media page and soon it transformed into #MeToo movement.
