Long term Garbage Disposal work began by Minister KN Nehru
Minister KN Nehru today inaugurated the operation of a building waste recycling machine at Kodungaiyur for bio-mining of long-standing garbage dumped at the Perungudi landfill site. Regarding this, a press release from TN Govt reads, "The Metropolitan Corporation of chennai collects an average of 5,230 metric tonnes of solid trash every day under its jurisdiction. These solid wastes are divided into biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes before being transferred to recycling facilities.
The residual waste is thrown in Perungudi and Kodungaiyur landfills. The tamil Nadu chief minister has issued orders to keep chennai clean and pollution-free, to clear land in Kodungaiyur and Perungudi of long-standing rubbish, to reinforce fertiliser facilities, to enforce solid waste management guidelines, and to scientifically recycle construction and crumbling waste.
As a result, the Ministers have begun the process of bio-mining the rubbish in the tribal landfill today (12.10.2021). The 325-acre tribal dump is the largest in the World States. 34.24 lakh cubic metres of this is waste that has been dumped for an extended period of time. The bio-mining excavation would be completed in six stages, at a cost of Rs. 351.75 crore, over the course of three years."
