Many states and UTs have reduced VAT on Fuels

As Fuel prices leap, the oil ministry has said that 22 states and UTs in india have reduced the VAT on fuel after its slashed excise duty before diwali with petrol and diesel reducing Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively. This reduction in VAT had been a great relief for consumers. There are 14 other states which have not reduced the VAT in fuels according to the ministry. These include Tamilnadu, Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Telangana, kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya, Chattisgarh, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, andaman and Nicobar, and Jharkhand. The highest reduction of petrol in VAT is seen in UT of Ladakh, Karnataka, and Pondicherry. The Ladakh prices have been reduced to Rs.13.43. The highest reduction in diesel is seen in Ladakh, Karnataka, and Pondicherry.

The kerala Finance minister KN Balagopal stated that it is completely wrong to say that there was no additional price reduction in petrol and diesel in Kerala. The Additional reduction of the prices is from kerala contribution only. After the GST introduction, Excise duty is imposed only on diesel, petrol, natural gas, and ATF. All the other services are under the GST scheme only.
