Rajiv Gandhi Murder - 30 Days Parole for Ravichandran?
Last evening, Ravichandran, who is being held in the madurai jail in connection with the Rajiv murder case, was freed on 30-day parole and returned home with police protection. In the assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, seven persons have been sentenced to prison. Ravichandran, a resident of Surappanayakkanpatti near Vilathikulam in Thoothukudi district, is detained at the madurai Central Jail.
Ravichandran's mother, Rajeswari, has filed a petition in the high court of madurai, requesting 30 days' parole for her critically ill son. The State of tamil Nadu has been ordered to consider this plea by the High Court. Meanwhile, Ravichandran's mother, Rajeswari, has petitioned chief minister Stalin for her son's release. Following this, Ravichandran received a letter from the tamil Nadu government in November. On the 14th, an order was issued providing a release for the first 30 days.
On november 15, however, the chief minister paid a visit to the flood-affected districts of Kanyakumari district, and the police were present to ensure his safety. As a result, the prison administration informed the party that it would not be able to provide Ravichandran with adequate protection. Ravichandran was brought from madurai Central Jail to his hometown with heavy police protection last evening in this situation.
