Imran Khan, 69, may have to step down as prime minister if some of his allies switch sides. The opposition needs 172 votes to remove Khan in Pakistan's 342-member National Assembly.

Pakistan's National assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on sunday announced to convene an assembly session on march 25 to move a no-confidence motion against prime minister Imran Khan.

Around 100 MPs from pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and pakistan Peoples party (PPP) submitted a no-confidence motion before the National assembly Secretariat on march 8. Both the parties have alleged that the Imran Khan-led government is responsible for the economic crisis and rapidly rising inflation in the country.

The opposition has been saying that the session should be held within 14 days. But, the country's Interior minister Sheikh Rashid had said that it could be delayed in the midst of extraordinary circumstances. The delay is due to the 48th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) starting in parliament house from march 22.

The opposition needs 172 votes to remove imran khan in Pakistan's 342-member National Assembly. PTI has 155 members in the house and imran khan needs at least 172 MPs to remain in government. The party has the support of 23 members from at least six political parties.

Imran said on the no-confidence motion, 'I will take three wickets with one ball'. He had also accused the opposition of demanding a National Reconciliation Ordinance. He also blamed the opposition for the declining importance of Pakistani passports.

Imran's party issues show cause notices to disgruntled MPs

On the other hand, Imran Khan's party pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on saturday issued show cause notices to its disgruntled MPs over the alleged defection. Along with this, he was asked to give an explanation by march 26 as to why he should not be declared a defector and disqualified from the membership of the National Assembly.

Ahead of the vote on the no-confidence motion in parliament against the imran khan government on behalf of the opposition, about two dozen MPs of PTI have adopted a rebellious attitude. At the same time, the government has accused the opposition parties of horse-trading of MPs.
