It is believed that such a situation has arisen due to the decrease in foreign investment. The government is making every effort to control this inflation. In the current conditions, the country has forex reserves of only USD 2 billion whereas this year the country has a liability of USD 7 billion. This situation has broken the back of Sri Lanka's economy. To overcome this, the country has set hopes from the international Monetary Fund (IMF), President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appealed to the IMF to help Sri Lanka.

Russia-Ukraine war made things worse

The effects of the most dangerous war after the Second World war are being seen badly in Sri Lanka. In the last few days, the price of petroleum gas in the country has increased by fifty percent. It is worth mentioning that sri lanka has been battling an intense civil war for the last thirty years. Its effect has been visible on the economy of the country. In this country with a population of about 25 million, many things used in daily life, from medicine to fuel, are imported. Fuel imports account for 20% of its total imports. Its price has jumped by 88% in the last year. The increase in the price of crude oil has come as a burden on the economy of Sri Lanka.
