The
andhra pradesh high court on
wednesday allowed the
andhra pradesh Crime Investigation Department to prosecute Kanumuru
raghu Ramakrishna Raju in matters other than the sedition case, which was a major defeat for the renegade
ysr congress party lawmaker from the
narasapuram constituency. Raju filed a plea with the
high court asking that all cases brought by the CID against him be dropped and that the CID be instructed to cease further action in this matter.
The
high court held that other than the one under Section 124 A, the CID may question Raju under other sections (sedition). Only from 10 am to 5 pm can the CID examine Raju at the Dilkusha Guest
house in
hyderabad with his attorney present. It further stated that the CID should limit its questioning to the cases brought against the
mp and not to any other matters.
Additionally, it stipulated that nothing should be done without Raju's attorneys present and that he should not be invited to the CID headquarters. The
high court warned that "severe action" would be taken against the concerned
police personnel if the CID
police disobeyed any of the court's instructions. In
view of the
supreme Court's order suspending all proceedings in sedition cases, Raju filed a petition last week asking for a broad stay on the FIR lodged against him under Sections 124A (sedition), 153A, and 505 of the
indian Penal Code. The
high court heard the CID's arguments in response.
