The ascent of Rishi Sunak to the top of british politics was not without "shock and awe." Within a month of major turmoil in Leicester, a city of three lakh people renowned for its intercommunal harmony—at least until recently—Sunak was elected prime minister of the United Kingdom. The turmoil between Muslims and Hindus in a peaceful city not only upset the Royals but also made headlines around the world. Several independent investigations of the racial conflicts are in the works.
The media has extensively covered the joyous reactions of Hindus not only in the UK and india but also around the world. While a few well-known individuals among british Muslims have expressed their support for Sunak, influential groups, including some with ties to the Left and the Labour Party, have focused on the Prime Minister's wealth, his alleged "pronounced Hinduism," his Tories beliefs, as well as his foreign policy stances toward palestine and India.
A previous interview with Sunak on "grooming gangs," in which mostly Pakistani men have been accused, has been uncovered. Sunak is seen vowing to take action on a sensitive racial issue that, despite its extreme crime, has been buried in the UK because to "political correctness." A Muslim organisation has been launching a campaign against Sunak while he continues to be the subject of intense scrutiny. Between october 24 and october 26, the Muslim Public Affairs Committee (MPACUK) published a number of posts, all of which were critical of Sunak.
On october 24, the committee declared: "Sunak doesn't have the support of his own Party's membership, nor most of his colleagues in Parliament, and certainly not of the country. MPACUK demands a General election NOW!" On october 25, it added: "Here's our reasons for why the Muslim community should be dissatisfied with Sunak as PM and released a video on why Rishi Sunak is bad news for Muslims." The committee is also encouraging Muslims to get ready for elections as it does so Another video explaining why Rishi Sunak is "bad news" as UK prime minister was released by MPACUK the next day.
