Telangana - BRS Impact : Demand for Rythu Bandhu gets louder in Maharashtra
Key State administration officials are increasingly emphasizing the need for Rythu Bandhu or a comparable package to aid struggling farmers in addition to political circles, social activists, and farmers' unions. sunil Kendrekar, a senior IAS official and the Divisional Commissioner of Aurangabad, made the appeal for financial support for farmers in Telangana-like amounts—10,000 rupees per acre—during a press conference on Tuesday. To halt the rising number of farmer suicides in the Marathwada region, Kendrekar made this recommendation to the maharashtra government. His advice is regarded as the result of a thorough investigation conducted in the area. The stock-taking exercise, which was started a few months ago, encompassed over five lakh farmer families.
Before the beginning of each agricultural season, he like to reach out to the farmers and offer them financial support. In 2022, there were 1,023 farmer suicides in the Marathwada area, which includes the districts of Aurangabad, Beed, Hingoli, Jalna, Latur, Nanded, Osmanabad, and Parbhani. Since 2001, there have been 10,431 farmer suicides in this area.
According to Kendrekar, the administration had evaluated the socioeconomic situation of farmers and their families in eight of the division's districts. Finding susceptible families who are propelled to act in an extreme way by a variety of circumstances was the goal of the survey.
