Telangana writes to KRMB - Stop Work in Andhra Pradesh
In a letter sent to the chairman of the krishna river Management Board (KRMB) on Thursday, Engineer-in-Chief (General), Irrigation and CAD, C. Muralidhar, pleaded for prompt action to stop andhra pradesh from moving on with the project's construction. Additionally, he asked the KRMB to raise the matter with the Ministry of Environment and Forests' Environment Impact Assessment Authority in order to halt the scheme's environmental clearance.
He emphadata-sized that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Z) fined ap Rs. 100 crores for attempting to obtain environmental clearance under B2-Category without first conducting a thorough environmental impact analysis and holding a public hearing. Additionally, the Tribunal has instructed the ap to halt construction in Avulapalli as of May 11, 2023.
However, he noted that notwithstanding the supreme Court's orders, andhra pradesh is still moving on with the building of the Avulapally balancing reservoir. Since the start of the new water year is on june 1, the KRMB asked both riparian States for their opinions. The conference would also cover Andhra Pradesh's concerns over the Palamuru- ranga reddy lift irrigation project and what it dubbed telangana State's "overutilization" of the minor irrigation sector to the tune of 45.66 TMC.
