Telangana Minister says Centre deceiving tribal communities
Tribal Welfare minister Satyavathi Rathod asked that the Centre raise the tribal reservation in education and employment from the present 7.5 percent to 10 percent, accusing the Modi administration of misleading tribal populations.
The minister said that the telangana government has increased the reservation for tribal people from 6 percent to 10 percent and had been executing a number of programmes for their welfare and development while speaking at the National Banjara Meet 2023 here on Sunday. She recounted that Kumram bheem Adivasi Bhavan and Sevalal Banjara Bhavan, which bear the names of tribal revolutionary leader Kumram bheem and Banjara spiritual leader Sant Sevalal, respectively, were built by then-chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
She requested the Centre to have nationwide celebrations on Sant Sevalal Maharaj's birth anniversary. In order to empower the tribal communities, the State government has upgraded 3,146 tandas to gramme panchayats and has approved spending of Rs 2,000 crore to build 3152.41 km of roads to connect all of the tribal habitats in the State. She also highlighted other initiatives being undertaken by the State government for the development of tribal people in the State. At the gathering, representatives from several Banjara organisations passed 14 motions for the improvement of the neighbourhood.
